This backyard had a lot going on before we got started. Bare, compacted dirt. A steep slope running along the back. No real usable space to speak of. It's the kind of yard that just sits there - you can't really do anything with it, and it doesn't look great either. That's exactly the situation this Douglas homeowner was dealing with.

Before any sod goes down, the ground has to be ready. We brought in our CAT track loader to grade the entire area - leveling it out, moving material, and giving us a clean, even base to work with. Grading is the step a lot of people don't think about, but it's what makes everything else work right. Skip it, or rush it, and you'll end up with low spots, poor drainage, and sod that doesn't take the way it should.

The stone retaining wall along the back of the yard was already in place, holding back that slope and creating a defined planting bed above it. That wall does real work - it separates the usable lawn area from the hillside and keeps everything clean and structured. With the grading done and the wall holding the grade, we had a solid canvas to work with.

Then came the sod. Fresh rolls laid tight, edge to edge, right up to the wall and across the full backyard. What was bare dirt became a clean, green lawn. The kind of yard where you can actually set up furniture, let the kids run around, or just look out the back window and feel good about what you've got.

A project like this pulls together grading, hardscape, and lawn installation all at once - and that's where having one crew handle the whole thing makes a big difference. No hand-offs, no gaps, no one undoing someone else's work. Just a finished yard that actually functions.
